ADHD in Children
Has Your Child Been Diagnosed With An Attention Deficit Disorder?
Tomatis ® Sound Therapy can help
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) are familiar terms to most people but there are certain stereotypes that can mislead or confuse about the nature of the conditions.
The common assumption is that a person with ADD or ADHD are restless, impulsive, easily distracted or lack concentration skills. The fact of the matter is that they actually present with a spectrum of symptoms and not all are what one might expect. Some people who suffer from ADD or ADHD are very quiet and introverted. They do not fit the popular description of someone with such a disorder. They can seem distant or even vacant.
What is ADD/ADHD?
There are varying opinions about what ADD and ADHD are. At issue is the catch-all nature of an ADD/ADHD diagnosis. There has been a notable spike in the last decade alone of diagnoses over a broad range of symptoms.
Even those tasked with finding the underlying root causes have to admit that no conclusive finding currently exists. Neurological syndromes, genetic maladies and environmental conditioning have all been speculated as causes, but there exists no conclusion of a source of the disorders at this time.
Make no mistake, ADD and ADHD are real conditions, as anyone – particularly adults – who suffer from them will readily attest. For many, the right prescription regimen keeps the effects under control, but for those who either cannot or will not take medication, there are alternative treatment options.
Relief Through TOMATIS ® Auditory Therapy
An alternative to medication that many with ADD/ADHD and their parents have found effective is TOMATIS ® Auditory Therapy. Developed by Dr. Alfred A Tomatis, this form of treatment uses auditory stimulation to help the brain “re-pattern” thought processes and nerve impulses that inhibit a person's ability to remain calm or focused. This is great news for people – especially children – who suffer from ADD/ADHD.
Hearing Versus Listening
There is no link between hearing disabilities and ADD/ADHD, but through TOMATIS ®, irrefutable evidence exists that confirms the effectiveness of retraining the brain how to listen on various frequencies. It draws a clear distinction between what a person hears and how he or she hears it. The benefit lies within the latter.
Since its inception, TOMATIS ® has helped thousands of people from all walks of life overcome the frustrating and often debilitating effects of ADD and ADHD. This is listening therapy, not hearing therapy. It encourages the brain to re-pattern itself and the nervous system to reorganize itself in a more regular way.
The primary effect of ADD and ADHD is an inability to appropriately filter out distractions and sensory overwhelm while properly filtering sound, leaving the individual unable to process all sound appropriately and efficiently. TOMATIS ® addresses these issues in a meaningful way and, in many cases, teaches people how to manage their condition without drugs.
The TOMATIS® Advantage
Among available audio therapies, there is none more effective or more comprehensive than TOMATIS ®.
