Reflex Integration
Reflex integration is the key to bringing about improvements in the abilities of children with developmental or learning delays. Improvements in memory, balance, fine and gross motor skills, sensory issues, cognitive abilities, concentration, executive function, processing, behaviours, reading, writing, speech and so on are all regularly achieved through Reflex Integration sessions coupled with the application of reflex integration exercises in a home program.
Neuroscience has now proven the plasticity of the brain. What this tells us is that if you stimulate the brain in the correct ways following the laws of regular brain development you can build up the brain for improved functioning. As all abilities originate in the brain, this is great news when it comes to kids with developmental or learning issues.
Firmly based in the ground-breaking findings of modern neuroscience, modern therapy is making great headway lead by the likes of Dr. Alfred Tomatis, Glen Doman, Peter Blythe, Sally Goddard, Harald Blomberg, Paul and Gail Dennison, Moshe Feldenkrais and so on. Thanks to these great luminaries in their fields applying their therapies to child development we now have a clear road-map to follow when it comes to helping children improve developmental and learning abilities.
When we take the time to integrate the reflexes we are laying the ground-work for real, lasting, positive change.
What Are Reflexes?
Doctors and Maternal Health Nurses regularly check the milestones of a baby as it grows and develops through infancy. It is the reflexes kicking-in and doing their good work at just the right time, and in just the right order, that allows baby to reach those milestones.
Once a particular reflex has done its good work it then needs to integrate into the nervous system to allow the next reflex to activate for the next stage of development. For it is through the action of the reflexes that brain development in a baby begins.
Primitive reflexes are the reflexes present at birth. These reflexes cause the baby to move in ways particular to that reflex. The action of the reflexes builds up the nerve connections between the body and the brain and begins the process of building up the brain itself, laying the foundation for all of the age-appropriate abilities that we expect of an infant, a child and an adult.
Therefore when a child is experiencing developmental or learning issues whether it be reading, writing, speech, concentration or simply the ability to sit still, the first and easiest place to look is the reflexes. Reflexes that have not integrated when they should have get in the way of brain development and a child developing higher abilities.
As reflexes form the foundation of all higher abilities, when we take the time to integrate the primitive reflexes and develop the postural reflexes, we build up the foundation for improved abilities in all areas of development.
How Do Reflex Integration Sessions and a Reflex Integration Home Program Work?
It would always be my recommendation that you do a Tomatis Brain Training program together with Reflex Integration Sessions and the Reflex Integration Home Program. Nonetheless it is possible to do Reflex Integration as a stand alone program.
Either way, over a series of sessions with me I use the QRI method of Reflex Integration with your child, during those sessions I also teach you how to do reflex integration exercises with your child at home. The home program includes instructions in the form of hand-outs and online videos. Reflex Integration exercises are simple and easy to do. Each exercise takes just minutes a day. A typical child will spend around 20 to 30 minutes a day on these exercises. For best results it is recommended that you do the exercises 5 days a week for at least three months.
When you take Reflex Integration sessions together with a Tomatis Brain Training Home Program, the reflex integration home program of exercises is included for FREE.
Natural, drug-free therapy for those who want the very best for their child.
